Our Story
The Royal Air Force Mountaineering Association (RAFMA) is the oldest of the single Service mountaineering clubs and represents the mountaineering community within the RAF. It is an active and sociable club for service personnel, including Reserve forces, RAF Air Cadet staff, RAF Dependents, and Veterans. With around 250 members worldwide, RAFMA welcomes climbers of all abilities, from indoor enthusiasts to high-altitude adventurers. Affiliated with the British Mountaineering Council (BMC), members enjoy BMC club membership and discounts with top companies. Join us and experience the freedom of mountaineering.
What we do
What matters to us
Gone are the days of mountaineering being just for the preserve of the grizzled and hardy few. As an Association, we value camaraderie and friendship, where people from the wider Royal Air Force family come together to try new challenges, share stories, travel together and have fun. We cater for all abilities. Some members love to crush plastic indoors, others may prefer hill walking in red socks, and plenty of members do both. Some members even go on to take part in major high-altitude expeditions.
